Why is it important to update your WordPress plugins?
Every month, we send our clients a list of the proactive work we’ve done for their website. On that list, you’ll probably see some plugin updates and maybe not quite understand what they mean or if they’re really that important to document. Well, let’s talk a little more about that.
First of all, a plugin is an additional feature that you’d like added to your site. They’re like puzzle pieces that you can add or remove from your site.
- Want fillable online forms on your site? Find a plugin!
- Want a calendar on your site? Sounds like you need a plugin.
Over time, when a site isn’t being worked on, those plugins and the website start to break down. When plugins get older, they are a security threat to your site as they have bugs and loopholes in them.
Have you ever wondered why you have to update your phone so often? Or your computer? Between developers making upgrades, or making it as airtight as possible from hackers, or that technology is always changing and has new tools constantly, there are a lot of reasons for device updates.
Same thing goes for websites! Your website should be a living growing system; just like your business.
